OUR STORY

After 20 years developing single and multifamily sites in Dallas, FREESPAN arrived in East Texas in 2019 with the goal to develop land differently from their past projects. All too often budgets did not allow for the replanting of trees and vegetation on Dallas projects. It was a concrete jungle by the time it was complete, and there was no acceptable solution around this end result. Developers must make profit on each lot sale. Builders must make their cut. Design and finish out budgets are reduced to increase margins. And yet before any of these decisions are made, it was decided with certainty to clear cut and flatten these sites to ensure the necessary units and parking stall counts could be met.

If development is designed and built with the intent to connect homeowners with nature, a better, healthier environment can exist.

A native of Abilene, Texas, Miles earned a degree from Colorado State with a focus on Construction Sciences. Since graduation, Miles has built and renovated more than 200 projects over his 20+ year career. Prior to starting his construction career, Miles played collegiate baseball at Texas Tech University before going on to play professionally for the Detroit Tigers. Before moving to East Texas in 2019, Miles spent 20 years developing and building in the DFW market. Initially finding his niche in renovation work in the Midway Hollow neighborhood of Dallas, Miles focused on tailoring homes to clients who sought a contemporary yet affordable lifestyle. This evolved into larger single-family custom projects, ground-up commercial projects, and eventually townhome and condominium work. On these projects, Miles managed the development, design and construction services for his clients and partners. After years of travel to research communities that resonate with his development and design style, Miles decided to focus on creating housing communities in urban, and scenic environments where, by way of careful planning and preservation in mind, nature can not only be a backdrop of the home, but an extension of it. In addition to acquiring land in the Tyler core for current and future developments, Miles focuses daily on his client’s work to ensure each custom project for his client’s runs smoothly. Miles lives in Tyler with his wife and three children.

Born in Abilene, Texas, Sarah earned a degree from Colorado State University in Nutrition Sciences. After graduation, Sarah moved to Dallas where she spent several years working in the Nutrition field, but during a trip to Palm Springs, Sarah was influenced by the homes designed by architects such Richard Neutra, Albert Frey and John Lautner, as well as visiting the Ace Hotel and L’Horizon. The clean lines, large overhangs, the variation of materials, and the interior and outdoor spaces left an impression that led her to focus her career on creating inviting, contemporary spaces for her clients.

Sarah’s love to travel has allowed her design perspective to expand over the years. From visiting homes, building and amphitheaters by world-renowned architects like Wright, Gehry and Phillip Johnson, to furniture by Eames or even a beach house designed by an anonymous architect, Sarah continues to seek inspiration from her life experiences in order to share with our clients.

When she is not at Freespan, Sarah enjoysattending her kids athletic events, pickle ball, and being outdoors.

Sarah lives in Tyler with her husband and three children.
